A Quick Book Review: If the Ice Had Held by Wendy J. Fox

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

Synopsis: Lives are complicated and entwined after a secret pact is made within a family that involves an unplanned pregnancy and a death. Jumping from past to present and told from different POVs, we learn more about how the birth and death impact many lives, all within a small Colorado town.

Genre: Literary Fiction

Hook: A Death, a Birth, and Many Secrets

Fun Fact: Wendy and I have Slacked, DM’d, Tweeted, talked on the phone and emailed, but have never met in person.

Full Disclosure: Wendy is also published by the amazing Sante Fe Writers Project. I spent my own moola on this book though, and ordered it via Indiebound.

Time of Year to Read: Winter, for that extra broody and chilling effect.

Would I Recommend This to Other Busy Parents: Yes, it’s deep, intricate and touching.

Similar Reads: On the Road with Del & Louise by Art Taylor. The writing in If the Ice Had Held also reminds me of Ann Patchett.
